Getting Started with Geo Force

  1. Install Geo Force into your Salesforce.com
  2. If you do not have a link to the Geo Force application, you can find it on the Salesforce.com Foundation website

    - Log into your org (Be sure you have administration priveleges; contact your administrator first if you are not the administrator). Once you are logged in, simply navigate your web browser to the Geo Force link (copy and paste the link into the URL portion of the browser).
    - You will be prompted to authorize the installation; follow the instructions on the screen. If you see a checkbox to 'continue on errors,' simply check the box and click 'continue.'
    - Once Geo Force is installed in your Salesforce, you will be able to navigate to the application itself using the app picker at the top right hand of your screen. You will also see the Geo Force tabs in the 'more tabs' section (arrow to the right of any existing Salesforce tabs).
    - You should see the following new tabs: Geo Locations, Geo Force, Geo Preferences, and About Geo Force.

  3. GeoCode your accounts
  4. - Navigate to the About Geo Force tab
    - Click the GeoCode button at the bottom of the page
    - Leave the browser open until messaging on the Geo Force tab tells you that Geo Coding has completed.

    - If you close the browser or navigate away from this tab before Geo Coding is complete, you can always complete the process by returning to this tab and clicking the button again.
    - You can have the application open in multiple tabs or browser windows while Geo Coding is complete; however, we recommend you do not create any new Accounts, Opportunites, etc, while Geo Coding is in process.

  5. View your mapped addresses in the Geo Force tab

  6. - From the drop-down menu at the top of this tab, select the from the objects in your organization which can be Geo Mapped (objects equivalent to 'Account' or 'Organization' in a standard Salesforce org).
    - Choose which list view you'd like to display on the map.
    - You can edit the list view to create an entirely new selection of organizations you'd like to see displayed on the map. (simply click 'edit list view' and select your list options; for help with this function see the standard Salesforce help documentation, which can be accessed at any time by clicking the 'help' link at the top right-hand of the page.

  7. Exporting Your Geo Force Map to the Google Maps application

  8. - You can export your Geo Force Map to the Google Maps application at any time. Simply navigate to view the desired list on the Geo Force tab, then click 'Export KML.'
This creates a KML file (a specialized XML file) which can either be saved to your computer or to a website for later access, or opened immediately with Google Earth.

  9. Day to Day maintenance

  10. - If you add new Accounts (or other GeoCoded objects), be sure to return to the About Geo Force tab and click the Geocode button, to include those objects in your maps.
    - Also, be sure to re-export your KML once you've done so.
